Animax Entertainment

Animax Entertainment is an Emmy Award winning creative studio that produces fun content for all screens. We help our clients create animated virtual worlds, online games, website, branded entertainment, social media, TV shows, and more. Basically we help them tell fun stories in lots of different ways.

Services

Virtual Worlds

We design, animate and engineer avatar-driven virtual worlds and MMOs using Flash AS2 and AS3. We’ve built kid-safe, browser-based, no-download experiences from the ground up on our own platform, or on existing ones like we’ve done for Warner Bros.  Our KID KONCEPTS strategic innovation division focuses on bringing established and emerging kids brands into virtual worlds.

Animation

Recognized experts in Flash character animation, Animax uses a proprietary paperless pipeline to produce short-form and long-form content for TV and broadband.  Pick a dimension and we provide full-services in it: 2D, 2½D, and 3D.

Online Games

Single player, multiplayer, advergames, USB games, social games, mini-games…we’ve produced them all.  Our game designers engineer them from scratch or we can reskin an engine in our existing library in ActionScript 2 or 3.

…and the Kitchen Sink

Yes, we make sinks using a proprietary Flash plug-in (sorry, excuse the Flash geek joke). Seriously though if you dream it up, we can make it: rich internet applications, mashup tools, widgets, traditional websites, original content, viral videos and more.

About

Animax Entertainment was founded in 2001 by Emmy winning writer-producer-actor Dave Thomas and by Andrew Bain, a founder of multiple ad agencies and technology firms. With that kind of DNA – and a leadership team that’s been with the company from the start – Animax has helped clients across many industries engage their audience in new and innovative ways.

The end result of our work varies – from online to TV to mobile to toys – but the way we get there is always the same – creative, strategic thinking backed up by tech cred and an extra large funny bone.

Who We Are

Dave Thomas - Founder

Founder and Executive Creative Director, Dave is an internationally recognized, award-winning producer, writer, director and actor.

Starting out as a copywriter at McCann-Erickson on Coca-Cola, Dave left the advertising world and joined the improv comedy theater Second City. He later went on to become an Emmy Award-Winning co-creator of SCTV where he created numerous characters that became pop culture icons including the McKenzie Brothers. Those characters have gone on to be used in numerous commercials and feature films and were the recent inspiration for the talking moose in Disney’s animated film and its pending sequel, Brother Bear.

Dave directs the vision for Animax creative teams – writers, designers and animators – to execute on original content production and Animax client work.

Michael Bellavia - CEO

Since Animax was founded, Michael has helped shape the company into a leader in convergent media. An Emmy Award-Winning producer, Michael has produced or executive produced all of Animax’s TV shows, DVDs, websites, virtual worlds, games, mobile apps, and a range of other entertainment based social media.

Michael’s background prior to Animax includes being a Lead Strategist at Concrete Media, a boutique interactive agency, to working in business development and marketing at several entertainment studios including Sony. Michael has an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BS in Engineering from The University of Michigan.

He is on the Board of Delegates for the New Media Council of the Producers Guild of America, a mentor for AFI’s Digital Content Lab, and has spoken at Ad-Tech, OMMA, Virtual Worlds Summit, the UK’s e-com Law, and KidScreen.

Tim Jones - COO

One of Animax’s original members, Tim oversees the company’s operations and original content efforts. An Emmy Award-Winning producer, his career highlights include production posts at Warner Bros., Klasky-Csupo, and at Icebox, the pioneering Internet animation house, where he headed the Flash Animation Department.

As a recognized expert, Tim co-authored "Foundation Flash Cartoon Animation" along with other Animax veterans. He has also spoken at numerous educational sessions and conferences including: Flashforward, FitC, ShowBiz Expo, Digital Hollywood, and the LA Flash User Group.
